harm of Television for Kids and Adults

Nowadays in any house there is at least one TV and people all around the world watch TV leastwise for one hour. A lot of studies talk about the huge harm of the television but is the Television really that much harmful? According to the new study watching too much TV makes you feel a bit brain-dead, it increases the risk of heart disease, and it might takes years off your life as well. Study shows each additional hour more than two hours which spent for TV, increases the risk of dying from heart disease by 18 percent and the total risk of death by 11 percent. The most harmful part of watching TV is the sitting part. Sitting for a long time means that there aren’t any muscle movement and it can disrupt metabolism. Besides these harms, there are other problems for kids too. Last year a Surgeon General's reported that these days 61% of TV programs contains violence. Therefore children who watch for three to four hours a day of non-educational TV will see about 8,000 small-screen murders by the time they completes grade school. Here's how the AAP puts it: "Watching a lot of violence on television can lead to hostility, fear, anxiety, depression, nightmares, sleep disturbances, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is best not to let your child watch violent programs and cartoons." According to AAP parents should prevent the children under age of 2 from watching TV because research on early brain development shows that babies and toddlers have a critical need for direct interaction with parents and other significant caregivers for healthy brain growth and the development of appropriate social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
