Polynomial Functions in Real Life

Polynomial functions are used a lot in our daily life. It is important to know what a polynomial function is. It is a function that involves only non-negative integer powers or only positive integer exponents of a variable in an equation like the quadratic equation, cubic equation, etc. The standard form of polynomial is given by, f(x) = anxn+ an-1xn-1 + an-2xn-2 + ... + a1x + a0, where x is the variable and ai are coefficients. Polynomial functions are used in business, science, geology, dynamical systems in engineering, quantum mechanics in physics and molecular orbitals in chemistry. Among career professionals, the ones most likely to use polynomials on a daily basis are those who need to make complex calculations such as engineers. For example,a civil engineer uses polynomials to design roads, buildings and other structures. Polynomials can also be used in financial planning in business. For instance, a polynomial equation can be used to figure the amount of interest that will accrue for an initial deposit amount in an investment or savings account at a given interest rate. Polynomials come up often in chemistry as well. Gas equations relating diagnostic parameters can usually be written as polynomials, such as the ideal gas law: PV=nRT. It is clear that we are surrounded by polynomial equations in real life as well as in mathematics.
